Hon. Hawa Mavis Koomson, the minister for fisheries and aquaculture has suspended the supply of premix fuel.
The Ada zone has been indefinitely suspended of any supply of premix fuel to the Landing Beach Committees (LBCs).
This is due to the fact that, some Fishermen are found fishing in the close season.
Hence, Hon. Hawa Koomson has put to a ban to suspend all fishing activities in the Ada zone in the Greater Accra Region.
The Member of parliament of the Awutu Senya East Constituency made the statements on Thursday, August 26, 2021 that;
Marine stock has faced dangers due to the act of some irresponsible Fishermen using negative means in fishing.
This retards the growth of the industry.
“The National premix Fuel Secretariat and indeed MOFAD is aware that Premix Fuel, which is subsidized by Government funding is regrettably used to fuel generators for the illicit practice of light fishing.
“It would be recalled that Ghana was nearly sanctioned with a “yellow card” penalty by the European Union (EU) and continues to be at the risk of a potential “red card” which connotes an outright ban from exports of fish to the European market alongside other detriments should these illegal activities continue.
“The affected LBCs are: Kewunor, Pute, Totope, Akplabanya, Anyamam, Goi, Lolonya, Ngmetsokorpe, Kponkpo, Ahwiam, old Ningo, Lower Prampram, Kpone, upper Prampram, Abia, Lekpongunor, Wokumagbe, Azizanya’OtrokpeyoAnyakpor’ Elavanr o, OcansekorPe.
